SSD errors

Hello
I am using a fairly new SSD (bought in July this year) but I am noticing issues, although I'm not quite sure whether they're the SSD's fault.
My specific SSD is this: https://www.mindfactory.de/product_info … 14209.html

Now the SSD usually works fine, except that after not rebooting my laptop for a few days, it basically "crashes". I often don't notice it at first as I have a RAID 1 with my HDD, so that the SSD failing is more or less transparent to the OS. Now when I say crashes I mean that the SSD does not properly respond to any requests send to it, whether read requests, write requests, or hdparm -I. Dmesg shows the following when trying to hdparm -I:

[142266.282421] sd 1:0:0:0: [sda] tag#1 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_BAD_TARGET driverbyte=DRIVER_OK
[142266.282423] sd 1:0:0:0: [sda] tag#1 CDB: ATA command pass through(16) 85 06 20 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 e5 00
[142866.305751] sd 1:0:0:0: [sda] tag#3 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_BAD_TARGET driverbyte=DRIVER_OK
[142866.305754] sd 1:0:0:0: [sda] tag#3 CDB: ATA command pass through(16) 85 06 20 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 e5 00

while hdparm itself just prints

 HDIO_DRIVE_CMD(identify) failed: Input/output error

and this happens when trying to read:

dd: error reading '/dev/sda': Input/output error
[142964.170363] sd 1:0:0:0: [sda] tag#10 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_BAD_TARGET driverbyte=DRIVER_OK

[142964.170380] Buffer I/O error on dev sda, logical block 22, async page read
[142964.170381] sd 1:0:0:0: [sda] tag#13 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_BAD_TARGET driverbyte=DRIVER_OK
[142964.170382] sd 1:0:0:0: [sda] tag#13 CDB: Read(10) 28 00 00 00 00 2e 00 00 02 00
[142964.170383] print_req_error: I/O error, dev sda, sector 46
[142964.170384] Buffer I/O error on dev sda, logical block 23, async page read

Note that after the next reboot, the SSD works properly again for a few days.

Now, is this an error with the SSD (so should I RMA it), or with the driver, the motherboard, perhaps I did not install the SSD right and there is a loose connection somewhere? Do you have any idea as to how I should test it? I unfortunately don't have another computer at hand that has an M.2 slot so I can't really test it somewhere else.

Re: SSD errors

I had a similar issue recently with also a fairly new but very unused SSD. It "crashed" randomly while I was playing a game and at next shutdowns such errors popped up every time, slowing down the shutdown process also. But the drive still worked perfectly and didn't show S.M.A.R.T. errors. Eventually the error messages stopped appearing. I think I did a format after having copied the files to another drive.
