[SOLVED]NetworkManager Applet Disconnects at Random

Hello all,

Problem:
I´ve installed NetworkManager, activated it, have the nm-applet running, configured it with my home wifi, connected, all no problem whatsoever. gnome-keyring and gnome-keyring-daemon are installed. Desktop is i3.
BUT:...
Case 1:
After reboot, the nm-applet keeps pushing me with it's login window for wifi and prompts me to enter the wifi password endlessly. -> When launched from console, the problem states "No Keyring secrets found for SSID /802-11-wireless-security; asking user.
This prompt repeats endlessly. I can confirm with my laptop, that there's no problem with the wifi. Neither reboot nor logout do change anything.

Case 2:
The Pc boots up, connects, no problem, no login prompts (keyring should be unlocked automatically @boot). After a random time 5 min. < X < 30 min. the login prompt for the wifi comes back at me, the system disconnects, even though there have no changes made to the system whatsoever (i did not touch it to test, if its abs. random ).

Case 3:
It asks me for my wifi login data after reboot and after that, it connects just fine, for again what seems to be a random amount of time, before it disconnects and we are back to the endless login loop.

In all three cases, neither reboot, nor logout login, nor killing all apps and restarting them helped. It seems to be absolutly random.

Now, what i am not too certain of: I have installed my gnome-keyring according to wiki, could that be the problem? - I am not too sure, if it ever started right, as it never was listed in the systemctl.
As soon as I can reconnect  @random again, i will post my list of services (systemctl list-unit-files out).

Hardware: Network Card in PCIe Slot: Broadcom BCM4360 14e14

Ah, what i noticed: at first setup, when i used dhcpcd, my network card was definitely listed as wlp8s0. Now, with nmcli/ip link it is listed as wlp144s0 , which rather confuses me (alot)

Looking forward for your ideas! big_smile

Re: [SOLVED]NetworkManager Applet Disconnects at Random

Please paste the output of `systemctl list-unit-files --state=enabled`. Also `hostnamectl`.

Moving to NC...

Re: [SOLVED]NetworkManager Applet Disconnects at Random

Did you read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GN … side_GNOME ?
Does it work if your use startx (and a properly setup xinitrc)?

Check your journal on why NM feels like re-connecting.

Did that again, still no change whatsoever.
Whats the best way to check the journal?
If I start the nm-applet from console, it keeps telling me about no keyring being found, as earlier mentioned.

Re: [SOLVED]NetworkManager Applet Disconnects at Random

I am really impressed by my stupidity.
As it seems, i absolutely overlooked the SSID Name which in this case contained: "<" . -> GTM Error.
Plus, I did configure the xinitrc BUT did not install xorg-xinit.

I am currently testing, after changing both SSID and installing xorg-xinit.
Networks up and running for now!

Sorry it is my xinixtrc file.
And after a first reboot, everything worked fine, after logging out and logging in again, same procedure as before, endless popup asking for connections password.
After rebooting it intitially connected. But after only 5 seconds, again, endless popup.

Output for journalctl -b |grep NetworkManager

That's no usable xinitrc
Also please don't grep anything. The connection dropped at 16:29 :08 but w/o context it's not possible to say why.
And: please avoid artificial wrapping when posting, see eg. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Li … in_clients

Re: [SOLVED]NetworkManager Applet Disconnects at Random

Updating in a Minute.
What should the xinitrc look like? I just followed the wiki pages.

Re: [SOLVED]NetworkManager Applet Disconnects at Random

You're still using lightdm and there's no indication for gnome-keyring-daemon to be running at all.

Read the xinitrc wiki page to avoid mistakes, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xinitrc
For a start, it's a sourced shell script and needs to follow  that syntax.
The shebang isn't relevant, but for completeness sake, it'd be "#!/bin/bash"

if clause from etc
fi

is no valid shell statement, you're supposed to literally copy the relevant section from /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.
And then of course you have to start a session ie. eg. "exec i3"

Ultimately, you got to stop/disable lightdm and run "startx" from a console login (in order to invoke the xinitrc)

Re: [SOLVED]NetworkManager Applet Disconnects at Random

Okay, i tried a lot now and still getting nowhere near a solution, sadly.
What my xintirc looks like now:
https://pastebin.com/CVLwrka4

I can confirm, that after disabling lightdm and starting startx from commandline, the i3 window manager did indeed work. But again, the same as before, after a couple of minutes my system disconnects, output of journal:
https://pastebin.com/6uPEucJF

I found gnome keyring (or thats what i think) in the journal, should be running, still no change for the nm-applet; same error as before, no keyrings found, endless login prompt

Plus: I found this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=216958
Where they state that lightdm automatically unlocks the keyring. I installed seahorse and checked, it is true that the keyring is indeed open after startup.

Why are you including this line?

dbus-update-activation-environment --systemd DISPLAY

Re: [SOLVED]NetworkManager Applet Disconnects at Random

Try to disable MAC randomization, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … domization

Also

Trying to associate with 00:24:fe:4b:84:2e (SSID='Hauswlan' freq=2437 MHz)
Trying to associate with 7c:ff:4d:48:b1:9d (SSID='Hauswlan' freq=2437 MHz)
WPA: IE in 3/4 msg does not match with IE in Beacon/ProbeResp (src=7c:ff:4d:48:b1:9d)

There seem to be two beacons w/ the same SSID? Are they configured *exactly* the same (wifi standards, security, password, …)?

Re: [SOLVED]NetworkManager Applet Disconnects at Random

There is a repeater in my room, yes. They are configured exactly the same.

Can you take it out of the equation and see what happens?

i disabled mac randomization. //did not help
i again cleared /etc/netctl (Again) //did not help
i installed wpa_supplicant (again, as a reddit user suggested) //did not help
I unplugged the repeater. //did help.
So far, its up and working. I am testing it rn.

Re: [SOLVED]NetworkManager Applet Disconnects at Random

Okay, just to make sure, i bootet up, connected, WLAN Connection working fine.

I plugged the repeater in. Connection was lost, Endless login loop achievement unlocked.
Unplugged repeater (without reboot or anything). Connection up and running again.

Problem:
I do not necessarily need the repeater, but my flatmate does....

Re: [SOLVED]NetworkManager Applet Disconnects at Random

There seems a networkmanager deviation that doesn't perform regular AP re-scans, but this seems a genuine problem w/ the repeater config leading to deliberate disconnects.
netctl profiles should not matter at all (because you're not using netctl), but what do your networkmanager profiles look like (obfuscate/replace the passwords!)?

As my flatmate does not seem to notice, this thread can be closed. My connection works fine now. >:D
