Re: ArchWD-FVWM 3.0

At ArchWM FVWM is´nt configured in one file but in many files.

If I use a fvwm2rc it´s start for example with:

SetEnv fvwm_video_path $[HOME]/media/video
SetEnv fvwm_video_exec mplayer
.......

If i would use such config files would i mess up my ArchWM config?

And how is it if i use FVWM2 modules (like FvwmPartition) :?:

Re: ArchWD-FVWM 3.0

This has been covered before, saying the main idea of ArchWD is to use many small files instead of one big (fvwm2rc). Not for the sake of it, but when each task or feature is a separate package its easy to install, uninstall and upgrade. Wiith this system an user can "assemble" and configure as per his/her choice.

We may say it constrains the over-all configure, but with Quick  Edit configs in a package are edited as per user liking, especially configs in ~/etc/conf.d where color settings and geometries are located. Moreover, if anyone makes a major change, the configs can be made in to a new package and then shared with others. Same goes when fixing a bug.

Yes, you can copy your "big" file either in ~/etc/rm.d or ~/etc/rm.d but then remove all existing configs in those directories. Also check in ~/.fvwm/archwd-user/lib/* if required libraries exist. But for what use when the normal Fvwm syatem does the same job. For testing a big file its a good idea.

About FvwmPartition, I have not yet studied how it works, but add the config(s) in ~/etc/rc.d (for auto read) or in ~/etc/rc.m (add config name(s) in ~/etc/rc.wmconf). Also add whatever are needed in ~/.fvwm/arch-user/share/ and ~/lib.

Re: ArchWD-FVWM 3.0

With the release of version 2.0, I wish you all Happy New Year 2006.

In this version was suppose to include one gui installer, but it was decided not to include thereby keeping simple and in Arch style. To get started, one startup installer is available with three options:

Default - Install all default packages (3 pkgs).
Custom - Install pre-selected packages.
ArchWD - Install/uninstall packages of your own choice.

ArchWD is obsolete, requires to install ArchWD-FVWM.
ArchWD-FVWM depends on fvwm-devel available in unstable repo.

Re: ArchWD-FVWM 3.0

Hi rasat,

i tried to use this.

So installed archwd-fvwm from AUR. I configured my .xinitrc and restarted X.
Than a message appeared that tells me what archwd-fvwm is.
I clicked ok. than I cliked on "user ...".
But now nothing else happens.
All i can do is restart and exit fvwm. I tried to start a xterm somehow....
Is there no menu by default??
Or sould I install more packages? how?

After "User - install user configure" a dialog box appears: "For the system to load, press Alt-F2", then a setup installer appears:
http://user-contributions.org/projects/ … /setup.jpg

To install manually more packages, load the xterm (Alt-F4) and run "pactk" to display the options. Its good to start with "pactk -up" (upgrade) and then "pactk -lu" (list of unistalled packages".

PS.
I will do a test with the AUR, if a bug occured when I upgraded from "-1" to "-2"

EDIT
There is no bug but a loophole. When dialog box "User - install user configure" appear, don't press "Cancel".
I have to fix the "Cancel" button not to close the script but asking to either exit or continue the install.

Re: ArchWD-FVWM 3.0

For me archwd-fvwm still doesn´t work.

I installed it from AUR.
If i start it the message appears and after I click on "ok" there appears another window, where i can choose between "exit" "user install". So u choose "user install". And than nothing else happens. All i still can do is restart with ALT+F2 and Exit with ALT+F10.
ALT+F4 for an xterm don´t work.

Could it be a problem, that i already have a ~/.fvwm/directory?

Re: ArchWD-FVWM 3.0

Default in the "User install and Exit" dialog box is "Exit, so "User install" must be selected". If "User install" is selected a dialog appears saying:
"Installed in...... (e.g. /root/.fvwm/archwd-user/)
"For the sytsme to load press Alt-F2"

If exit selected:
"Exit, press Alt-F10"

I cannot trace the problem you have. It works fine with me. Also I have not got any feedback from other users.
Can you take a look at the archwd-fvwm package, starting with the script /usr/bin/archwd-fvwm, if you find something what I have missed.

Re: ArchWD-FVWM 3.0

I tested in a fresh Arch installment, and works fine when installing either as a root or as an user.

When installing as an user, directory /tmp must be accessible. I think this the problem. When selecting "User install" a temporary file is stored in /tmp

Xdialog --title "PacTK"
--radiolist "Select an option (default Exit)." 12 35 2
"User" "- install user configure." OFF
        "Exit" "- exit ArchWD-FVWM." ON 2> /tmp/checklist.tmp.$$

retval=$?

choice=`cat /tmp/checklist.tmp.$$`
rm -f /tmp/checklist.tmp.$$

If I am correct, then enable your /tmp. When installing Arch, its enabled for all users. But I will also edit the script not to store in /tmp.

Re: ArchWD-FVWM 3.0

In version 2.1 the /tmp is fixed. Also Pactk performance is improved...  fast download of package descriptions. Before 1 to 2 minutes when downloading .dsc files what is not needed when gui package installer was not included.

Let me know if it works for you.

Re: ArchWD-FVWM 3.0

Hello,

I have the same problem as legout.
how do I use this? I dont understand.

i have installed it:

pacman -A archwd-fvwm-2.2-1.pkg.tar.gz

and when i choose it as my wm, I log in, I get the introduction dialog, i press ok, i choose "user install", press ok, nothing happens. I press alt+F2, the introduction dialog appears again, and it just repeats, and so on...

what am i supposed to do to make it work?

I cannot find any definitive "howto" on using it, not on UCB or here in the arch forums.

am i supposed to use the *.install file in some way? or am i supposed to download other files into a specific directory?

thank you kindly...

I will not be able to check until end of this month. Could be something has changed among other packages since last test (January) on a fresh Arch install.

Re: ArchWD-FVWM 3.0

There is a new update, version 3.0.
xdialog is replaced with zenity (gdialog). A bug was fixed causing the first install to stop suddenly.

If archwd-fvwm is already installed:
# pacman -S zenity (if not yet installed)
# pactk -up

Version 3.0 setup menus (with Zenity):
