Update failed and computer cant boot anymore.

Hi guys!

There is a long error message when I try to boot my computer.

The hard drive sda2 is encrypted by lukscrypt.

But I managed to mount it and chroot into it.

 cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda2/ crypted
 mkdir /mnt/crypted && mount /dev/mapper/crypted /mnt/crypted

If I try

 pacman -Syyu

I get lot of "errors" "write failed"

error: could not extract /usr/share/man//man8/setcap.8.gz (write failed)

Then I tried to chroot

 arch-chroot /mnt/crypted

Most of the commands I try I get this  error

ls: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libcap.so.2: file too short

Is this done for? Or are there any hopes for me to get back my files or computer back to bootable mode? I do see my files after mounting, but not sure how to send them to usb stick or something?

What does it say?

Do you have enough space to mirror the device or do you need to mount the filesystem to perform the backup?  Do you have any existing backups?
I would suggest performing a S.M.A.R.T. extended self-test then post the results of the test.

Hi the error log was kinda long so I took a picture of my screen. Dont know how to take a pic otherwise in this situation.

I dont have enough space to mirror the whole device not do I have existing backups on this machine. I was wondering if I could somehow mount it and then send some files to external drive (only the most important files ) should be sufficient. But I am not sure how to.

Re: Update failed and computer cant boot anymore.

There is a risk even if you mount the system read only you will cause additional data corruption (for example ext4 journal replay when the journal contains corrupted data)
If there is no alternative.  Boot from the installation media.  Create source and destination mountpoints.  Mount the source and destination filesystems then cp files across.
