Audio output not working with Pulseaudio

I recently installed Arch on my HP Pavillon Power 15 cb013ng

I never managed to get any audio output using Arch. I installed pulseaudio to try and fix that.

When playing a YouTube video in firefox or an mp3 file in VLC, pulsemixer recognizes the Audio Stream, yet there is no sound.

When I run speaker-test, the console output seems to be normal, but still: No sound.

pacmd shows my sink as running, not muted and with 100% volume. pulsemixer shows the same information.

Can someone help me?
Thank you!

Re: Audio output not working with Pulseaudio

Post during attempted playback

sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
aplay -lL
pacmd list-cards
pacmd list-sinks
pacmd list-sink-inputs

Re: Audio output not working with Pulseaudio

Whoops should be

pacmd list-sink-inputs

of course.

However from what we have right now, your card sink is at a low 20% you might want to up that to ensure it isn't simply too silent. FWIW in addition to the sink-inputs output can you also add

amixer -c0

Re: Audio output not working with Pulseaudio

The sound worked for the first time just now, however after rebooting I am back to not working. Does that help in any way?

It is not to silent, there is no sound at all. However I increased the volume to 100% just to make sure.

I added the output of

pacmd list-sink-outputs

to my previous answer.

Re: Audio output not working with Pulseaudio

ensure there are no .asoundrc files in ~/ or /etc , if so delete them and reboot, if still no sound try creating ~/.asoundrc with contents

pcm.!default {
    type hw
    card 0
    device 0
}

then reboot

Re: Audio output not working with Pulseaudio

None of these files existed, so I created ~/.asoundrc

I also tried outputting sound do my headphones which worked fine. But still no sound on my built-in speakers hmm

Thank you for you attempts to help me, but nothing seems to work... Has anyone any ideas?

Re: Audio output not working with Pulseaudio

Looks like your jacks are wired weird... FWIW remove that .asoundrc you really don't want to use that while using pulseaudio, it will lead to conflicts that have no relation to your current problem. Two things to try with the default tools

amixer -c0 set 'Headphone',0 80%,80%
amixer -c0 set 'Auto-Mute Mode',0 'Disabled'

if that doesn't bring you sound yet: You aren't using the LTS kernel, are you? That chipset might be too new to have sensible support with it, use the normal linux package. If that isn't it either, I faintly remember wonkyness with some HP UEFIs/BIOS wrt  to audio, maybe check if there's an update to that, if that isn't it either install hdajackretask (part of alsa-tools iirc) and check there if you'd have to override some pin so that it gets properly directed to your speakers.
