Re: No sound card found after update

Ok... not sure this is solvable...

I tried manjaro-gnome and kubuntu from a live image and both showed the same problems and the same error in dmesg

I took a look if there is a way to enable/disable sound in BIOS, but couldn't find anything.

Re: No sound card found after update

It is a starting to look like a hardware problem, but could be  a linux problem.

Did you erase the recovery partitions for the  original windows installation the laptop came with ?
If not, you could backup arch , then revert to that install to verify sound under windows.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Since you have updated your firmware, kernel and done a lot of stuff not mentioned in between, try booting without parameter acpi.ec_no_wakeup=1. Change sleep mode in bios to Linux as mentioned in the wiki. Also, the name of the module is snd_soc_skl and, if I'm not mistaken, is for hdmi audio support and you should not need to put that in you mkinitcpio.conf, remove it if it is there and rebuild your initramfs. Then post output of:

dmesg
lsmod
systool -vm snd_hda_intel

Re: No sound card found after update

I'm not sure I can mark this as solved as I don't really know what happened. I tried the Fedora live image which performed some check at the beginning (sound didn't work with Fedora) and forced me into BIOS setup after reboot. And after a couple of reboots ending up in Bios setup automatically I just choose "save and exit" instead of "discard and exit"

That's it... now it works.

@B1omman: thanks for pointing out the sleep mode option in BIOS. I also removed snd_soc_skl from mkinitcpio.conf (I did these changes after it started working again so it was unrelated)
