[SOLVED] LUKS Crypted external hdd problem

Hello,
When I plug-in my crypted hdd in my computer, a window open to ask me my password (like when you mount or something like that). But I cant submit it or close the window by clicking on cancel, nothing happens on clicking on these buttons. So I switched with ALT+CTRL+f3 to the console and unlocked it from there. Then I mounted it with Nautilus and it worked. Is there a way to fix this ?
And I tried to format my hdd to an unencrypted ext4 file format, on opening it Nautilus said me "Not authorized to open it". I had to change the permissions of the mounted directory, because it was on 622.
PS : All my system is up-to-date, I am on GNOME desktop and I use GDM as login manager.

Re: [SOLVED] LUKS Crypted external hdd problem

I find that when encrypting an external drive, I prefer to use a key-file opposed to a password. This has some added benefits such as mounting at boot time etc.
I do much the same. I have a USB dock that allows me to  add 2 3.5 1TB drives (yeah, the desktop drives) and I have both encrypted and the both get mounted at boot time so that when I login, I have access without the need to mount via shell or file manager and they are accessible from the start.
Plus - I dont have to remember a "complex" password to mount the drives.

If you prefer to do this method, PM me and I can send you a write I did on this.

Cheers
Chris

Re: [SOLVED] LUKS Crypted external hdd problem

Thank you for your proposition but I use my hdd to backup my files, so I only use it when I need, not at boot time. And the password isn't my problem, I have a password manager.
I just want to fix this problem.

And I forgot to say that is perfectly worked before, and it works for mounting an encrypted partition on my hard drive. Why doesn't it work anymore ?

Don't know whether gnome-shell bug #565 still pending, disable gnome dialog box feature on media insertion until a fix released. See Settings > Devices > Removable Media > Never prompt or start programs on media insertion

Re: [SOLVED] LUKS Crypted external hdd problem

Yes, it is exactly my bug ! Your method didn't work, but I found this :

Better temporary solution, set org.gnome.desktop.media-handling automount false using dconf or gsettings. This will stop gnome-shell from attempting to auto-mount the disk.

Because the bug is only on automounting, but mounting it with Nautilus works fine. Thank you for your help !
