Hi
I usually use:
xset s 3 3... and now getting system hangs, at random using OB.
Is there some fix possible.
Thankyou

You'll have to elaborate on "hangs", notably whether the kernel still runs (ie. you can switch to another VT or ssh into the machine)
Also about the condition of the "hang":
Does it hand while you randomly use openbox or does it randomly hang? In case of the latter: randomly in direct reaction to the xset call or does it randomly hang and you assume it's womehow™ related to the xset call?
Also: xorg logs, dmesg, journals (of boots affected by this issue)

Hello Sir!
No, I am not able to switch to VT!
I dont have the facility to test/try ssh, for now.
It is random, but occurs in case I keep on using my laptop with 3sec option. If I increase the value to 2minutes, I didnt encounter this issue.
Wrt: "Also: xorg logs, dmesg, journals (of boots affected by this issue"
I will try to check the logs, but would there be a log if system hangs? I am not sure about this!
Thankyou

can you Raising Elephants? generally if the kernel didn't hang you can at least do that much.
there should be a system log at least for the events before the system hangs. a lot goes on in a second on a machine.

using my laptop
Is it maybe rather the screensaver invocation at all?
What if you issue "xset s noblank" before?

Hello Sir!
1. I dont use any screen saver in OB.
2. Using:
xset s noblank... would mean it will not blank out, so then the purpose of xset in my case, would have no effect, as it doesnt blanks?
Thankyou

You shall *try* whether that's relevant to isolate the problem and also you also are looking for DPMS anyway?

Hello Sir
I tested it, but I need to use the blanking feature, which at 3seconds is problematic.
It doesnt makes problem at 12seconds.
Thankyou

Please stop "sir"in me.
You tested it ***to what effect***?
At this point you don't care whether you "need" the blanking feature (what I doubt - blanking does NOT turn off the screen), but whether the blanking causes the problem and how the 3 second interval behaves w/o it.
Sidenote: w/ blanking the second "3" is pointless anyway.
