GDM showing blank screen on iMac

Hello! I've managed to install Arch on my 21.5" mid 2010 iMac successfully. Now I'd like to install GNOME, but I've run into a little problem. GDM just shows a blank screen with a blinking cursor. I've tried downloading the appropriate graphics drivers, but it doesn't seem to work. At first, I thought it might have been because I added the "nomodeset" kernel parameter (the screen turns off after boot-up if I don't use it), but when I found out I could instead use the "modprobe.blacklist=radeon" kernel parameter, I tried again but to no avail.

I'm a bit stuck now, so could someone help me out?

Re: GDM showing blank screen on iMac

modesetting is more or less mandatory for a graphical system (notably for wayland) - afaik the only way to a graphical system w/o modesetting is the highly limited xf86-video-vesa driver, so this is what you want to investigate. Eg. check the journal of a former boot and whether this also happens when not booting a graphical.target, see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … _boot_into

Thanks! I'll look into this.
