xps 9570 acpi issues. CPU temperature above threshold and other errors

Hello, I recently installed arch on the new xps 15. I have several issues with acpi.
I tried already (I have to admit, blindly) some parameters in the grub, but without significant changes.
The last grub configuration is

BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/nvme0n1p8 quiet splash acpi_rev_override=1 pcie_aspm=off nouveau.modeset=0

The main issue is that I get

Did you have any luck with this?

It's got nothing to do with acpi / Linux, but thermal design flaws in recent XPS models (sticking higher powered CPUs in the existing chassis designed for older / cooler chips).  You can read about it all over the net.  The advice, with great results from all reports, is to pad and repaste (with 9570 motherboard pic) and undervolt.  I plan to do this in the coming days and will add a section about it onto the 9570 wiki page.

My system is two weeks old, and ran under load for the first time for more than 30m at once, now my fan sounds awful even when soft.  Scared something expanded permanently with the heat, will have to see when I open up the system.  Very disappointing for a state of the art system out the box, but sounds like people are actually very happy with it after the tweaks above.

P.S. The ACPI Error: AE_ALREADY_EXISTS from my brief googling can be safely ignored.  I haven't had any issues on my system beyond heat (I have the dGPU disabled though, and had to solve some issues with the TB16 dock).

So I did all the above and the results have been phenomenal.  Fans are on much less often and spin slower (softer) and for less time when they are.  Totally different ballgame.

I have some numbers.  They'll have to be considered a little anecdotal.  "Idle times" include all my browser windows open and misc background tasks running.  Readings were only performed once in each situation and not averaged out over multiple tests.  Nevertheless:

Out-the-box:

• Idle, fans avg 0 rpm, cores avg 41.0°C (range 40-42)

• Stress pre-fan, fans avg 3695*, cores avg 94.3° (range 89-98) (fan had just kicked in)

• Stress post-fan, fans avg 4870, cores avg 81.6° (range 78-83)

Pad and repaste:

• Idle, fans avg 0 rpm, cores avg 39.3°C (range 39-41)

Pad, repaste & undervolt with CPU -139.65 mV and (i)GPU -75.20mV:

• Idle - need to redo this one

• Stress pre-fan, fans avg 0, cores avg 94.3° (range 79-83)

• Stress post-fan, fans avg 3200, cores avg 80.8° (range 79-82)

• Stress test few mins, fans avg 4890, cores avg 81.0° (range 79-84)

Stress test is with mprime "torture test".  "Pre-fan" is just before the fans kick in, and "post-fan" is a few seconds after the fans kick in.  No script was used to capture the exact moments fans turned on and this was done by hand.  I regret that I didn't do the "few mins" test before the repaste, maybe someone else can chime in.

The big take?  Note the much lower fan speeds (battery & noise!!) to maintain the same temperatures, and with the undervolting, even a few degrees less in the same circumstances.

I'll be honest, I've never done any "hardware mods" like this before and I was super nervous to do it, but it was totally worth it, feels like a different machine   If you need convincing, just read the user comments on the article above.

Will add some info about all of this to the wiki page momentarily.

Oh and I guess most importantly, since the repaste, I have very little throttling!!  Noticeably less lag and:

Note the "total events = 1" above, these were at best in the hundreds and often in the 15,000s or more.  That's not to say it's always only 1 event now, but the numbers are vastly reduced from before and much less frequent (during normal use which you would not expect to trigger throttling).
