I have never managed to successfully compile any .vb files using vbc from the mono package.
No matter what (even for an empty file) I always get:
Microsoft (R) Visual Basic Compiler version 2.8.2.62916 (2ad4aabc)
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
vbc : error BC2017: could not find library 'System.XML.dll'There seems to be no file named System.XML.dll on the system. However Xml (note the case) does exist:
pacman -Fs "System.Xml.dll"
extra/mono 5.16.0.179-1
usr/lib/mono/2.0-api/System.Xml.dll
usr/lib/mono/4.0-api/System.Xml.dll

usr/lib/mono/gac/System.Xml/4.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089/System.Xml.dllAfter discovering this I have now managed to successfully compile.
sudo cp /usr/lib/mono/4.7.1-api/System.{Xml,XML}.dll
vbc /sdkpath:/usr/lib/mono/4.7.1-api/ test.vb
mono test.exe
Hello WorldIs this a packaging error? The PKGBUILD does not seem to do much so perhaps this comes from upstream?
Should I open a bug here? Or as an upstream issue should I just contact them directly?

Have you try to ask to the wine forum ?
do it good first, it will be faster than do it twice the saint ![]()

Why would I ask them? This is mono I'm talking about, not wine.

Well this is archlinux, not mono project. How much has to do Arch with visual basic ?

What.
Wine and mono are two different projects, both of which Arch has packaged.
The OP is asking about the latter project, and first you say to ask the former project for help, then you insinuate Arch users using Arch packages should not seek support here because the application isn't "to do with Arch"?
Just... stop posting, please.

instead of using vbc . U should use vbnc. I also get same error for vbc and it compiles fine vbnc
live and let live

Yes I had been using vbnc for quite a while. It works but is pretty incomplete, instead of giving detailed compile errors it often just says something along the lines of "todo: implement error message, the compiler will now likely crash".
Since digging into it for this forum post and discovering the XML vs Xml inconsistency, I've just done the cp command listed above and am using vbc fine. Even if it is a horrible hack.
At least I know it's not just me though. When I have time I'll open a bug and look into it some more.

Well it's likely some remnant with Windows/NTFS being case insensitive and thus any variant of include option would resolve the include properly there, no matter the case of the filename. So if this isn't something Arch does actively change in the PKGBUILD, it might be worth a bug report to mono.
