Record of Packages Removed from Repos?

I recently performed a fresh Arch installation and found that two packages (freecad and flightgear) which had previously been available in the main repos (probably extra or community) are now only available via AUR. Is there some record somewhere of the decision to drop packages from the main repos? I'm curious to know why it happened and whether or not I can expect them to be added back again later. I searched the forums but didn't see anything promising.
