I've been experiencing random lockups on a fresh installation about once an hour, but often less than that. All clues lead to my DE crashing as a result of a Nouveau panic.
Running Plasma with KWin/X11 primarily, but this happens on GNOME/Wayland and GNOME/X11 as well. I've tried blacklisting Nouveau and installing the proprietary nvidia driver instead, with even less luck. With this driver I am unable to reach any DM at all. All packages have been updated prior to posting here.
So far, I have not been able to find any leads for why this is happening, but hoping you guys will have more luck with it, than me.

If you need any more info, let me know and I'll get back to you as soon as I can
Update: Completely slipped from my mind that custom kernels need a different nvidia package. Installing nvidia-dkms and executing a quick mkinitcpio on the kernel solved the lag completely. As for Nouveau, I have not tried any recommendations from the page linked below yet

There's no trace of the nvidia driver being loaded at all in that journal - probably due to "vmlinuz-linux-vfio"?
How about the stock kernel?
As for nouveau, there's also https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=242635

Interesting. I'll check out what I can do with that other thread when I get home.
When it comes to the vfio initrd, it's produced as a part of the 'linux-vfio' package and a subsequent mkinitcpio on that kernel. I need it as my board puts my graphics adapters into the same IOMMU group.
What could cause the nvidia driver not to load? It's installed from the regular Nvidia package in the core repo and isn't blacklisted

Kernel mismatch nvidia built for the linux package supplied by arch will not load under linux-vfio.

Right. My bad, I carelessly missed that step. My other PCs are running the stock Arch kernel, so it slipped my mind completely.
