I'm not a newbie, but I feel like this is a newbie question. I know you can set up grub to boot an iso file on your HDD. I'm using EFISTUB to directly boot Arch, I have the my /boot partition set up as the UEFI system partion, and formatted FAT32. Is there any way to configure EFI to boot an iso image directly? It'd be handy for system recovery purposes if I kept a copy of the arch iso in /boot. I did a fair bit of googling, but I'm hoping someone here has a way to do it.

I'm pretty sure that it's not possible.
Grub only manages it because it contains drivers for ISO9660 and the ability to loop mount.

I thought of doing something similar. I use rEFInd and wanted a boot entry to boot a Clonezilla iso for backup purposes but rEFInd doesn't have the loop mount like Slithery said. It seems the only way to do it, for now at least, is to install Grub. Someone mentioned though that it is possible to have rEFInd point to Grub for this purpose but I have not tested this.
