How to resize display screen?

Hello,

I have a problem - the monitor has broken and now the white bar is on the left. It looks like this:

broken monitor

It is possible to compress the image horizontally, then move it to the right?

So that the white bar does not close the monitor image.

Thanks!

Re: How to resize display screen?

The nvidia blob can do that (in case you use it)
The screenshot however leaves me wondering whether there's an actual physical issue? Or is this an "artistic" interpretation of the problem?

Re: How to resize display screen?

Tried use this:
xrandr --display eDP1 --output --pos 10x10
xrandr: unrecognized option '10x10'
Try 'xrandr --help' for more information.

why '10x10' is unrecognized option?

Re: How to resize display screen?

xrandr --output eDP1 --pos 10x10

That's rather not going to work and please don't feed random stuff to xrandr unless you're prepared to have to do a hard reset (ie. restart the X11 server from another tty) because you lost the visual interface and have no idea how to get it back.

I take you're not on the nvidia driver?

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xr … -transform

There's no guarantee shifting to the right works, the nvidia driver throws you a bad request for negative offsets.

This works!
But it changes back after few seconds.
I mean I enter: xrandr --output eDP1 --transform 1,0,-24,0,1,0,0,0,1
Screen moves to 24 pixels right.
After few second it goes back.

Why?

Re: How to resize display screen?

Either the monitor performs some autoscanning and adapts for the shift or something else controls randr values.
Did you try it on a "naked" X11 server (xterm only, no WM, no DE)?

Sorry, I do not understand what is it.
How can I check it?
