Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everyone,
I am not exaclty knowing why i am trying to setup an arch system.
I guess it is because I like simple things and I like to understand how things are working.
But damn, it turns out that it is quite a lot details to care about.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everyone!

I have been using Ubuntu for a while, but as a future Robotics student, I think I need to understand better what is going on under the hood, so here I am, trying to figure out how to install Arch.

My main goal is learning as much as possible about Arch, but I am aware this will require some effort at first.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Ciao,

G

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everyone!

I've been using Linux on and off for quite some time now - starting with Redhat in 1999 (I think it was version 5 or thereabouts). I used Mandrake for a while, some Debian and, in recent times, mostly Ubuntu. That being said, I haven't been running Linux on a desktop since about 2004 (my Linux usage since then has mostly been a little web server I run). I've mostly been using Mac OS X since then. However, this year I needed a new laptop and decided to go back to Linux (yay!).

Initially I was on Ubuntu, but wasn't entirely happy with their Unity UI. My friend ThePeach convinced me to give Arch Linux a go. I've been using it for a couple of months now and am pretty happy overall!

But, being a bit rusty with Linux UIs and more used to distros that require less manual setup, I now need a bit of help with some things so here I am!

HELLO EVERYONE!

My name is William and I'm from Brazil and I'm graduating in Computer Science.

I started studying ArchLinux because I read many beautiful reviews about this system and because I love testing distros and implementing unknown packages. I admire Arch because it is simple and very flexible ... Pacman is really powerful and I would like to learn how your code works. In the future, I was interested in the community to learn more about Linux in order to develop packages and contribute to maintenance as well as train my English which is horrible.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi guys!

I've been inlove with Arch ever since I use Manjaro. Yeah it's easier for me to get the hang for Arch using Manjaro and I know the differences because I jumped to Arco after I was bored with Manjaro.

I love the wiki and I know that the rules are simple especially the RTFM part XD

I'm still a newbie and I love learning about computers and the processes behind it, I opted for Arch because it doesn't need to compile and build everything (sorry gentoo users), basically I'm a coffee addict and Arch is my coffee.

So as my newbie question, where do I find the logs needed for anything wrong, or are there any links to the needed thread for newbies like me?

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone,
I'm a "mineiro" (BH, Brazil) with 24 years.
I'm founder of an IT company, were we use CentOS (almost all) and Ubuntu servers to deploy mainly NodeJS, PHP and Go apps.
To my personal desktop I've tried a lot of distros, I used to like to change, but 3 years ago I fell in love with Arch, specially because of pacman, AUR and the Wiki.
I used i3 window manager in recent years, now I'm switching to Awesome on my laptop.
Sorry for my English, it's only a little bit better than my newbie Linux skills tongue

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello from Ottawa, Canada

First distro was  Redhat 5.0 then I went Debian(testing) in about 03 or 04. I've been testing out Arch in qemu for awhile and have decided to make Arch my new distro! Should have it done this weekend.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello world!

So I used ubuntu for about 6 months until they released unity (how many years ago?). I didn't like unity or Linux and dumped them both. Fast-forward to me now. Bored and in need of something new to fiddle with and in walks Arch Linux, complete with awesome documentation and this new thing called a tiling window manager... Two weeks later and I've got arch running i3 as my only os. I've got iptables and misc other stuff working. I just broke i3 but more on that later. I'm loving arch. It was exactly what I was looking for. I don't miss windows and half the time my laptop doesn't work because I've messed something up and have to fix it.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

I have split a few posts out to their own thread as being off-topic and unproductive. As a brief reminder, things that bother you can be put in the "Grr" thread; additionally, things which bother you about specific other users can be left unsaid entirely.

Otherwise, welcome everyone!

All the best,

Hello, world!

I just started using arch linux a month ago, and this is my first linux experience. I really like the customizability and the wiki, and I'm grateful that this community exists.

Hoping to be able to contribute,

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello,

my name is Ian and I wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I have been using Ubuntu/Linux Mint since 2007 but I switched to Arch about two months ago so I could have greater control over my system and learn more.

I am committed to using only free (Libre) software and I support the FSF - which is part of the reason for the switch.

I'm really enjoying it so far and already learning a lot. Once I get some more time under my belt I hope to be able to contribute to the Wiki and help maintain some packages.

Have a good day.

-Ian
