thinkpad t430 with sierra MC7700 airprime (no gps functionality)

thefirmament11 · 2018-12-26 19:11:38

using sierra airprime gobi 4000 (MC7700) have great speed and signal however no available port to run gpsd have tried and searched on and off for months

when running gpsd on various ports

outputs of mmcli

[mmcli -m 2 --location-status]
https://privatebin.net/?4504150e35d8fcd … wUEMPa67eD

even i am able to get raw gps coordinates ::

[ sudo mmcli -m 2 --location-get-gps-raw ]
https://privatebin.net/?85f3798dcf35fe0 … nfitT7tEEv

this is a WWAN modem which i am also using for internet occaisonally

output of :

[sudo mmcli -m 1 --location-get]
https://privatebin.net/?000b9535c95e5b2 … 7pafJpez3V

it seems each time the laptop sleeps it will randomly assign a new modem number hence the different numbers eg mmcli -m (0 / 1 / 2) (should be a non issue)

modem manager reports the device as /dev/cdc-wdm0
once it did come across as /dev/ttyUSB2
but after some playing i must have lost that

output of sudo gpsd -bnN /dev/cdc-wdm0 :
https://privatebin.net/?32c97f025d02851 … iumHgwsuZH

same output for :
[/dev/ttyUSB2] and
[/dev/ttyUSB0]
however
[/dev/ttyUSB1]
just hangs with NO output at all (even with foreground flag)

i have tried every possible navigation application and switching drivers (although not the official driver as it is apparently unsupported)
and every single time reports no gpsd/gps found unless i run

[sudo gpsd -bnN /dev/ttyUSB1]

which just hangs but then applications report coordinates as
000000,00000,0000,0000 instead of saying gpsd not found and yes i have tried waiting even leaving it alone for a whole day to see if it would get 'a fix' but to no avail
also i dont see why the raw gps output in modem manager is not just read by such programs
even though in modem manager gui it reports only 3gpp location not gps coordinates (again 000000,000000,00000,0000)
this is baffling to me as stated above i have complete raw gps info from the device

any help here would be greatly appreciated as ive said been trying different angles for months (on and off just giving up and accepting the lack of functionality)

but as i had similar problems with another erricson card i assume maybe i am missing something quite grand so my frustration finally got the better of me and i signed up for an account on this forum
hoping that someone more enlightened than me may be able to step in

thank you !!
