is there more than tuxracer around?

since 2.4.23 i have now full 3d-acceleration on my ATI Mobility FireGL7800 (using radeon) ...

the only 3d-games i know are tuxracer and bzflag, but i wondered what other 3d-games are there around (of course for (arch)linux! wink )

what 3d-games do you play on archlinux?

thanx in advance

track-balls is a 3d accelerated game.  Brings you back to the days of Marble Madness.

Re: is there more than tuxracer around?

Well, if you mean free games, I honestly don't play any. If you mean commercial games, I play:

Unreal Tournament
Unreal Tournament 2003
Savage: The Battle for Newerth
NeverWinterNights and it's expansion
Rune + expansion
Railroad tycoon 2
Soldier of fortune
Majesty
Tribes 2
Kohan
Descent 3

Those are all my Native linux games I run.
WineX games I run are:

Aliens vs Predator
Battlefield 1942
Command and Conquer Red Alert
Dungeon Siege
Homeworld
Homeworld 2
Kohan: Ahrimans gift
Master of Orion 3
Morrowind + both expansion
Starcraft + expansion
Stronghold
Warcraft 3
Total Annihilation: Kingdoms

All these games run great in Arch linux. But if you want the best game that is currently native on linux it gonna be Savage. IMO anyway.

it's always better to have "free" ones (as i'm a student and my budget has it's ends wink) but for a great game, paying a little is not that horrible

wow, thanx for this long list ... i will have a look at the shops next time --- savage sounds not bad, indeed:
http://www.linuxlogin.com/games/savage/ i found while searching for it

is there something simmilar like "Siedler" (3 or 4) around, under linux? (i used to play Siedler2 under dos, a really funny game)

... running wine(X) is not really what i want; you loose too much performance with it :-([/img]

gltron is nice, but "pinball" is a little bit boring in my opinion (but nice graphics)

Re: is there more than tuxracer around?

Well, I am not for sure what exactly Siedler is. I did a search on it and all I found were german sites I believe. I buy all my commercial native linux games from www.tuxgames.com so you may want to check them out and see what they have.

Re: is there more than tuxracer around?

"Siedler" = "Settlers"
it's really popular in Germany and other german speaking countries. I've seen it in some shops in GB and the USA.
I've never seen a open source clone of settlers, but you may start one... lol
I've seen some Risk clones (german: Risiko) around the web. Just have a look at freshmeat.net or so.

Moritz

Re: is there more than tuxracer around?

If you're into FPS, there's Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (just google for it), and also (moral issues aside) America's Army, which I haven't played much, but it's fun if you can be arsed to do the training, and don't want kill-everything-that-moves action. Free download over here

And of course UT2004. And Neverwinter Nights. Need the CDs for those though, obviously. Then there's games you can run through Wine or WineX, never tried either though to be honest. Have fun big_smile

Re: is there more than tuxracer around?

Just go to www.americasarmy.com and go to the download section. Some of them you need accounts to download, but not all.

Alternatively search for armyops200a-linux.bin on google or something. It's around a 650MB download though :S And the one annoying thing is that you need to complete training before you're allowed to play on the servers. Not hard though.

do you have a pkg or pkgbuild for epsxe (or pcsx, an opensource playstation emulator...)?

Re: is there more than tuxracer around?

There isn't one I saw but I suggest you simply hop on to www.ngemu.com and get the epsxe/pcsx and appropriate linux plugins (Pete's or P.E.O.P.S are my favorites) and play. They don't need compiling and work right of the TGZ ;-)

Of course you'll need a PSX bios to play and it's illegal to have one if you don't own a playstation...
