release packages compilation

Hi,

For a release like 0.6 (widget), are all packages recompiled with the compiler for that release.

- So are all packages in the 0.6 repository compiled with gcc-3.3.3
- Or are some packages kept from the development cycle when gcc-3.3.2 was still used without recompilation?

Regards,
Pascal de Bruijn

(when answering my question, please also tell me why do you think this is so, so let me know if you are a arch dev or tur)

Re: release packages compilation

my guess would be no. simply put because there is usually no time to recompile everything to a specific gcc and really no need to unless something is simply not working. you could easily find out though by seeing what date gcc 3.3.3 appeared in the trees and looking through the various package lists to compare last build dates.

arch is using rolling releases. So what does that mean? Working on the
repositories means to make sure that nothing gets broken and everytime
you would checkout all packages you have a working system. Sometimes things get broken, sure. They are fixed as soon as possible. Therefore, a
release is just a snapshot of the repositiory. But it includes an installer,
which mostly adds some new functionality, some times under the hood
sometimes more obviosly. So arch is not working toward releases, which
are then maintaned and bugfixed while preparing the next release.
Packages are not recompiled with new compilers for releases. They are
recompiled due to dependency issues and things.

For your explicit question: likely there are but they are pretty much
approved to be not broken. Also note that releases are targeted to the
current repository only. The unstable and extra is all together much bigger
than current. The release of CD's for extra is considered, though. but still
work in progress.

Out of curiosity Why are you interested in a completetly recompiled release? For speed?
