[SOLVED] Uppercase accents

Hi there,

I am having an issue I can't solve after searching the web. I cannot write uppercase accents like Á when on a tty or urxvt. I can, nonetheless, when I am on Firefox. I can't even paste these letters to the terminal, copied from Firefox. An É gets converted to an E. Lowercase accents work alright.

$ localectl status
System Locale: LANG=da_DK.UTF-8
VC Keymap: es
X11 Layout: es

This is indeed what I want. Locale in danish but ES keyboard map. If you need more info, please say so. Hope you can help me!

Happy new year and thanks!

Re: [SOLVED] Uppercase accents

Ignore the tty for the moment, if you copy É into urxvt and from there back into eg. the browser - do you get what you want?
Alternatively store the letter in a textfile and "less" it in urxvt.

Also:

locale
locale -a

Re: [SOLVED] Uppercase accents

Thanks for the reply.

When I copy É back to the browser it is copied correctly (I get an É).
When I less the file, I get an E.

Re: [SOLVED] Uppercase accents

It's most likely your font or a rendering issue (the ascent incl. the accent being to high for the glyph box) - what font do you use for urxvt?

Re: [SOLVED] Uppercase accents

My .Xdefaults has:

urxvt*.font: xft:DejaVu Sans Mono:pixelsize=15

The thing is that it isn't working at TTY either so I don't think it is an urxvt issue.

Re: [SOLVED] Uppercase accents

Set aside the TTY, those fonts are all limited.
The terminal does not display the character, but preserves the codepoint.

Ensure it's loaded: "xrdb -query | grep -i font"
The accent is barely notable for me at this font, (it's merely one pixel on top of a pretty huge letter) => screenshot?
It's better for the hinted & dpi aware glyph:

urxvt*.font: xft:DejaVu Sans Mono:size=15:hinting=true

or with consolas at those parameters

URxvt*font: xft:Consolas:pixelsize=15

Re: [SOLVED] Uppercase accents

The xrdb -query command says that the font is loaded.

For me, both characters are the same. The first should be É and the second, E.

I tried both fonts and nothing changed.

Re: [SOLVED] Uppercase accents

That's for sure not DejaVu Sans Mono, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DejaVu_fo … s_Mono.svg
Please post the actual output of "xrdb -query" and "ps aux | grep -i urxvt" to rule out fonts controlled by some parameter.

Re: [SOLVED] Uppercase accents

The problem was that ttf-dejavu was not installed. Thanks for the help!

Re: [SOLVED] Uppercase accents

In case the console is still an issue, see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Li … sole#Fonts and especially http://alexandre.deverteuil.net/pages/consolefonts/ - Lat2-Terminus16 might be your choice.
