Getting Hidden Windows Files off of a DVD

I've got a DVD with audio files (.wav, I think) that are in a Windows-style hidden folder.

I want to copy them to my drive.

ls -a doesn't list it.

mount /dev/sr0 /mnt/dvd-rom/ -o unhide (found on the ubuntu forum)  doesn't show it.

making a copy to USB via:
dd if=/dev/sr0 of=/dev/sdd bs=64K conv=noerror,sync

and loading that USB stick into my wife's (unfortunately optical-drive free) Window's Laptop prompts me to format the USB stick.

What gives? Is there any way around this?

(The DVD is from a music teaching book that contains proprietary software that can slow down and speed up the audio files. That software is loading under Wine, but can't find the audio files. For some reason, they thought it was a good idea to put them in a hidden folder...)

What makes you think the DVD includes the files? honestly, if `ls` doesn't show it, I would have expected it to not be there.

All the best,

Re: Getting Hidden Windows Files off of a DVD

In theory, given that a dvd is only readable and it has a fixed amount of data space whether that space is used or not, it's possible that the publisher created this dvd and wrote wav data to specific offsets in unallocated space on the disk.  The software would then need to be hard-coded with these offsets so it could read directly from the device in the absence of any actual 'files'.

I highly doubt this is the case, though, and if it is you're mostly out of luck.  You could write a program that would scan through the full content of the device and look for anything that looked like a wav header.  But first I'd rule out the far more parsimonious explanation that the audio files simply are not there.

Is it maybe rather a CD w/ multiple audiotracks behind the data track?

Re: Getting Hidden Windows Files off of a DVD

Thanks for the help. I contacted the publisher and they actually just sent me a link to a zip file that had everything I needed (basically, a zip of the DVD contents, but without all the hidden business).

What made me think the files were there was that the support size specifically told me to view hidden files (on Windows) if I was having the problem I was having (in Wine and on Windows).
