Weird behavior of "xinput set-prop" for thinkpad (t480) trackpoint

This is what my ~/.xprofile looks like:

$ cat ~/.xprofile  

xinput set-prop "TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint" 304 1
xinput set-prop "TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint" 294 0
xinput set-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" 286 1    
xinput set-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" 294 1    
xinput set-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" 306 .3

However, this somehow does not change the properties for the trackpoint (the first two lines) but it does for the touchpad. If I manually run the first two lines (by copy-pasting) the properties are set properly. I am using kde/plasma. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
