Archie re-brand/re-name?

I've been thinking about modularizing Archie, which has led me to a search for a better name than "modules".  I did a thesaurus search for modules and it churned out a few words.  I liked the look of element and atom.  It'd be cool to call them elements but that's not really in keeping with the Archie name so I wondered about renaming Archie to Element or Elemental and calling the modules atoms.

Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions?  These are just thoughts on my part; I'm not at all sold on a name change and I've not even discussed it with Ziggy!

Ah ha! This is something I can help with. I work for Pearson Longman, in the dictionaries dept. Longman owns Roget's Thesaurus, and so I have more words than you can shake a stick at.

Surely, if you want to emphasize that your system is make of components, in a modular fashion, whilst pertaining to a computing theme, you call it Bits!

Re: Archie re-brand/re-name?

I think losing the Archie name would be a mistake - unless the intention is to de-emphasise the relationship with Arch, but there are no good reasons for doing that, IMO.

For the modules, maybe 'factors' or 'segments'?

How about key stones, or keys as a name for the modules? It doesn't necessarily roll off the tongue, but it keeps with the theme.

Agreed.

How about: Components.  Containers.  Cans.  Units.  LEGOs.  Blocks.  Bricks.  Bundles.  Beakers.  Viles.  Pills.  Packages.  Packs.  Pods.  Layers.  Libraries.  Dumpsters. tongue  Archlettes.  Archilles.  Achipelagos 8) (a landform which consists of a chain or cluster of islands).

In fact, what's so wrong with just plain old 'modules'?

It's just boring - I like pods though - they're self-contained.  Seeds would be good too but that's to easily confused with torrenting!

Packages?

(Personally I find nothing at all wrong with "modules", IMHO that's the least stupid-sounding choice... But have it your way. wink )

Re: Archie re-brand/re-name?

packages wouldn't be good just for confusion with an actual package from Arch, and not Archie.

I'm all ready confused enough.

Re: Archie re-brand/re-name?

I think modules is just fine as well...it's intuitive already, and most everyone would know what it meant without giving it a second thought.  I think sticking with Archie is also a good idea to maintain the relationship between it and Arch.

That's a beauty!

(Although, I'd say it should be Archlets though.)

Or how about clusters?  When something breaks, the reference practically speaks for itself!
