Kernel Panic after System Crash

While running pacman -Syu my system crashed and now it runs into a kernel panic when starting.

I booted into the live cd, decrypted and mounted my partitions and chrooted into my system. So far so good.

Normally i run the linux-vfio kernel but i am unable to install packages from AUR so i tried installing the default kernel but i get the error:

pacman -S linux linux-headers

...
:: Running post-transaction hooks...
...
(3/3) Updating linux initcpios...
==> ERROR: invalid kernel specified: `/boot/vmlinuz-linux`

Re: Kernel Panic after System Crash

Do not chroot into the system (you don't know what's broken) but use the --sysroot parameter for pacman and perform a full update, check "pacman --sysroot /mnt -Qkk" and ensure there're no other compromised packages. (Otherwise re-install them, you'll have to pay a little attention because it's normal for some files to be changed and you might want to "| grep -v ' 0 altered files'" to filter away "all good" messages)

Re: Kernel Panic after System Crash

Thanks for helping.

I get a lot of "Modification time mismatch" but i guess thats normal since i already chrooted into the system.

pacman --sysroot /mnt -Syu systemd
error: could not open file /etc/mtab: No such file or directory
error: could not determine filesystem mount points
error: failed to commit transaction (unexpected error)

i also rechecked the kernel panic message. It  said failed to execute /sbin/init

Are you still chrooted into the installed system here? Don't. The idea is an offline update, ie. not relying on the installed system at all (because it's broken)

Re: Kernel Panic after System Crash

No, i am not.

I booted the live cd and just decrypted my partition and mounted the lvm's volume-root to /mnt and volume-home to /mnt/home
