Re: unreal tournament - arch team

I've been doing deathmatch with some co-workers and once in a while we toss in a bot.  We cranked it up to 'inhuman' and I'm amazed at how they can do a set of backflips up those pieces of sheet metal.  How do you do that?  I know about double-jumping, but sure looks like they're doing something else to accomplish the jumping/flipping/climbing action.

Re: unreal tournament - arch team

Ok, we figured it out here at work (and yes, sometimes we do actual work too).

I've only played the DM-Rankin level so I don't know if this applies to other maps too.  Some of the sheet metal panels leaning against the walls can be 'climbed' by double-running forward and followed by a double jump.

I'll probably pick up a copy on the 15th and join the Arch clan.  See you then!

Re: unreal tournament - arch team

ok, i'm downloading the demo and will buy the original when it comes out (am i right: there will be one pkg for all OS's in the shop?) if it is not too expensive :-) (students must economize)

is it more difficult than bzflag to play? :-)

Re: unreal tournament - arch team

downloaded it and tried ...:

it works, but i see funny big triangles across the screen when trying to play and therefore i cannot see what happens

the output of console:

[damir@Asteraceae ut2004demo]$ ./ut2004demo
unknown chip id, assuming full radeon support
Xlib: extension "XiG-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD" missing on display ":0.0".
center point[damir@Asteraceae ut2004demo

EDIT: in software mode i can play @ 640x480 and see the happening ok ... but this that bad graphics like Wolfenstein3D on a DOS 5 80286 machine :-)

Re: unreal tournament - arch team

hmm weirdy

apparently XiG-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD does this

The extension provides resolution switching, gamma query/set, viewport query/set, and blanking.

So maybe ut2004 is tryna switch to a resolution your monitor/card doesn't support?..., or your card doesn't support resolution switching? So try changing the defualt desktop resolution, or colour depth or something and see what happens

i'm guessing by the way

Re: unreal tournament - arch team

Well it came out today, in Canada, and I had to pick it up.
It loaded smoothly on my box.
If I cranked all the display setting to max it ran nicely but when I exited the game it sometimes killed X and shut down xfce4. Not a problem as I just rebooted Xfce4.
Running the default display settings led to no such misbehavior.

There are two versions a CD and DVD
With the DVD you do not need to change disks during the install, unfortunately for me the dvd version was sold out in 5 minutes.

A note to those with single cdrom drives, you will need to be able to mount and unmount your drive during the install.
It took me a while to remember how I did this with ut2003.
To do this open two shells.
Use one shell to mount and unmount your drive
Use the other shell to start the install script by typing "sh /mnt/cd/linux-installer.sh"
Just remember that if you launch the install script from the shell that you mounted the cd with you will not be able to  mount and unmount during the install.

Well I am good canon fodder but if there is an archers team/clan I will do what I can to help.

Re: unreal tournament - arch team

alright, ibroke down and bought BF:V, but I'm going to get UT next paycheck. I'll join up, we oughta play onslaught, its so awsome (and i'm only so-so at DM).

I'm getting a pair of T1s in the next 2 months, I was planning on hosting a UT server...

Re: unreal tournament - arch team

yea it would be wonderful if you could host a (arch clan :?: big_smile )server. it sucks to join expert strangers. i'm so-so at this game, just started playing a month ago. but i'm getting really experienced in onslaught (the best game mode i think), it's great fun.

i made a mailinglist, but i'm kinda arguing with myself: i think that this thread should be the primary way of communication, cause it's open to the arch community in general. so forget about the list   :!:
