desktop video recording

Does anyone know of decent software to record an mpeg or something of your desktop? I googled and found a link that provides a process to record to swf with sound but I like to avoid swf if I can.

Basically what I need to do is provide a video demo of a project I've been working on this summer. My last resort is to just point my prof's video camera at the screen.

Maybe xvidcap?

Never used it, though.

I've never had to do this either, but have a look at byzanz or istanbul in community, or recordmydesktop in unsupported.

Re: desktop video recording

I tried xvidcaps, byzanz, istanbul, but all of them were very slow. Recordmydesktop works very well for me, it's very well done and well optimized. You should try it. As said on the official website :

recordMyDesktop tries to be as unobstrusive as possible by proccessing only regions of the screen that have changed.
