After exiting or logging out xorg , system freezes. NMI watchdog complains about hard LOCKUP on CPU. I am unable to logout or shutdown and hence I have to force shutdown every time.
I am currently installing arch linux for second time since i got the same error during first installation.

Card? Driver? Xorg log? Journal entry? Anything?

Thanks, I have updated my post.
There seems to be nothing unusual in journal and in xorg.0.log there are only errors about modules nv, nouveau, Intel, fbdev missing and glamor initialization failure

"Intel i5 8th gen acer laptop" is completely useless in this context, so is your assessment of "nothing unusual in journal and in xorg.0.log", and especially if this is the xorg log from a present boot/Xorg session and not the one that encountered the stall.
You'll have to produce the actual logs if you want this to go anywhere.

The 10:02 to 10:28 session in journalctl is the last session when i started xorg and did a force shutdown. After that, i have been using wayland and there has been no problem

That's your session journals, try "sudo journalctl -b"
Also mandatory read: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA_Optimus
Nouveau lockups are btw. a common thing, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/No … le_Invalid - you might want to try the nvidia blob, notably since this is a fairly new chip.

Thank you Seth, xorg exits properly if Nvidia is disabled by passing kernel parameters nouveau.noaccel=1
Thanks to everyone
