Grub runs extremely slowly

Hello, I have been having this problem where Grub runs extremely slowly ever since I first installed Arch Linux about 2 months ago. It takes Grub a couple of seconds to fully render the boot selection screen (I can see it render from the top of the screen to the bottom of the screen one row at a time) and when I hit e to enter additional options, the editor is almost unusable. There is about a 2 second delay between me hitting the arrow keys to navigate and the cursor actually moving. Furthermore, about 10 seconds after entering the editor, I can hear my fans running at full speed. I can't find anyone online with this same issue. Note that the issue isn't getting to Grub itself (I know there are numerous threads about that); I can get to Grub in a normal amount of time.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx
RAM: 4GB
Kernel: Linux 4.19.8-arch1-1-ARCH
Grub: 2:2.02-8

Re: Grub runs extremely slowly

I think you should remove grub and use this convenient solution big_smile https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/systemd-boot

Re: Grub runs extremely slowly

Try to just handle it being slow while you get into the system where grub is installed. Once booted run dmesg and provide the output. Remember to use the code tags when posting the output, how to do that is documented here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode

This is unhelpful, D3CIM8OR might not even be using a UEFI enabled system. Additionally it does not sound like it is a problem with grub itself to begin with. Please only post useful advice based on the problem described versus simply telling someone to use different software that might not even work for them.

EDIT: Specified that xYx's post is unhelpful

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GR … ramebuffer (ignore the nvidia part, the main question is whether it's the framebuffer that makes it slow)
