Random freezes while using Ryzen 1700

Hi, I'm here to report a problem that has been happening for quite some time now. I'm now and then having some freezes in which I can't do anything else until I restart my computer. I was performing heavy work but it only happens in Linux, I can do it just fine while using Windows. Would any of you know anything that can help me? Here you can see my lspci command output:

Re: Random freezes while using Ryzen 1700

Back when Ryzen had just been released, people found out that on Ryzen 1700 CPUs that were manufactured before a certain date, there was an issue where it would crash under heavy load in Linux. The way I remember, AMD replaced people's CPU when they asked for help with the problem. They sent people a different 1700 that was manufactured after a certain date. I don't know if there was later also a different solution for this problem besides replacing the CPU, like maybe an update to the BIOS.

Maybe this old story is the same problem you have right now?

Re: Random freezes while using Ryzen 1700

Try disabling the "Global C-State Control" (or similarly-named) option in your BIOS.

Re: Random freezes while using Ryzen 1700

I had a similar problem with Ryzen 1700X after RMA and changed two things

+ add an commandline option in /etc/default/grub

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="rcu_nocbs=0-15"

+ moderately overclock (3400 to 3600 MHz) the processor in BIOS, which on my board ASUS Prime X370 also disables global C-States.

No hiccups because of this ever since.
