Since sysadmin is gone, here I am.
I haven't done anything special, except installed davinci video editor, using the PKGBUILD in AUR, but now /bin and /lib are missing from my system, resulting in a none-booting system
root device mounted successfully but /sbin/init does not existNow, I know that both are symlinks, but since I can't chroot in (/bin/bash not found) I need to find a way outside of the system to fix.
I've tried a variety of permutations of symlinking (using, I should say, a Mint live disk) but none get me out of this hole.
The contents of /usr/bin and /usr/lib are intact.
Where do I go from here?

You can "chroot /mnt /usr/bin/bash" and in doubt use relative symlinks for the moment ("ln -s usr/bin /bin")
Online
They're relative symlinks, anyway

I tried that - same error re /usr/bin/bash - but /mnt/usr/bin/bash definitely exists

You can copy the symlinks from a working system 'cp --preserve=links'

@qinohe - not what I did, but led me to a "Doh!" moment. My laptop also runs Arch, so why not just look at exactly where the symlinks go and recreate them. All up and running again. Thank you guys.
I had a hairy moment where I couldn't get into the desktop, although I could get into a terminal (so not a permissions issue). Anyhoo, in my 3 hours of trying to fix it, I'd backed up fstab to avoid mounting stray drives, and forgot that I did it. Restored it and the world is good again.

Did you ever figure out what caused the issue though? You said the only thing you did was install some AUR package -- if that managed to delete /bin and /lib then I'd suspect some highly inappropriate post_install scriptlet. Which package is this exactly? If it is doing something that can damage users' systems we should know about it and fix it...

I honestly don't know. The package installed was davinci resolve. The PKGBUILD looks for the zip in ~/ (which has to be downloaded separately). But I don't suspect that PKGBUILD. I can't check, since it's just been updated, so even if it was that, it's been fixed.
It certainly wasn't user error (I don't make a habit of deleting system links), but since I'd also, earlier, had several updates, it could be any, or none. It may just be an aberration.
