Thunar will not launch

Hi All,

I use Cinnamon and Nemo on my laptop but I also keep thunar around mostly just for the batch rename feature. It has been launching fine for a while but the other day I noticed it wasn't launching. If I open the terminal and try to start thunar I get this error.

(thunar:28164): thunar-CRITICAL **: 12:08:49.580: Name 'org.freedesktop.FileManager1' lost on the message dbus, exiting.

I see the application open for a brief moment and it crashes.

I then jumped into the root account for a second to see if it was just my profile. Thunar launches for the root user without issue. So I figured there was some cached file in my home directory or a setting or a messed up variable that was causing this. I searched my home folder for anything regarding thunar and I removed it. But still the application will not launch.

Any thoughts? I don't understand the error message and Google does not bring up any useful results.

I have the very same issue, making me think this is probably a faulty update. I also use cinnamon, but opposed to the OP I use thunar all the time because I hate nemo, so this issue is rather bad for me. Information I got for you:

I'm not sure whether that's a viable general solution, since that process is what provides your desktop (icons on wallpaper and stuff) and might be integrated w/ other things in cinnamon - I'd rather look around in the tunar/nemo switches to avoid that claim.

Yes, killing nemo-desktop process works. But we still need a better solution. I have a custom nemo action in the context menu which launches thunar's bulk-rename utility. So if I have to kill nemo before thunar can be launched it kinda breaks my workflow.
