[SOLVED] Microsoft Designer Bluethood Keyboard issues

Hello.

Recently, one of my friends gave me this keyboard. The keyboard works perfect on Arch Linux under KDE desktop environment connected using Bluethood to a laptop. It pairs well and I can use it to type without any problem (right now I'm using it to write this post).

However, when the keyboard disconnects from the laptop (to save energy) and It tries to re-connect it again, the keyboard stops working. The system recognizes the connection of the keyboard (bluetooth service can recognize the keyboard) but when I try to type anything the keyboard doesn't work.

I have checked the output of "dmesg" comnad and it is possible to see the following when it pairs the keyboard in the first time.

[ 8481.707439] input: Designer Keyboard as /devices/virtual/misc/uhid/0005:045E:0806.0004/input/input23
[ 8481.707916] input: Designer Keyboard Consumer Control as /devices/virtual/misc/uhid/0005:045E:0806.0004/input/input24
[ 8481.708152] hid-generic 0005:045E:0806.0004: input,hidraw2: BLUETOOTH HID v1.15 Keyboard [Designer Keyboard] on 18:5E:0F:7E:84:BA

Then, if the keyboard is disconnected (because I don't type anything in some time) and the keyboard reconnects, the system recognizes it and throws the following message in demsg

[10507.433243] Bluetooth: hci0: advertising data len corrected
[10514.477262] Bluetooth: hci0: advertising data len corrected
[10516.943233] Bluetooth: hci0: advertising data len corrected
[10524.916201] Bluetooth: hci0: advertising data len corrected
[10527.536258] Bluetooth: hci0: advertising data len corrected

In the bluethood service it is possible to see the following messages:

● bluetooth.service - Bluetooth service

It is strange because I have also the designer mouse and it works without problems. I can disconnect it, reconnect and it works perfect.

I'm running now the 4.20.3-arch1-1 kernel. If it is necessary further information, just tell me.

Thank you very much

I have the same keyboard and mouse and they work perfectly for me on Linux (with GNOME), including reconnecting. But I bought them from a store about a week ago, so maybe mine have newer firmware versions.

Can you pair the keyboard with e.g. Windows 10 or Android to test it? Perhaps the Windows 10 driver updates the firmware too, so it might be worth a try...

Hello.

Yes, for some reason (don't know why) now is working without issues. I connected it into an Android device without any problem.

Thanks for your response.

Like I said, I wouldn't put it past Microsoft that these other OSes quietly perform a firmware upgrade. There are no firmware downloads on the Microsoft support site, so I would expect new firmware to come from somewhere else.

Anyway, great that it works for you now! It's a nice keyboard, very Apple-like, but unlike a real Apple keyboard the keycaps are a total grease magnet. So you will want to keep a mictofiber cloth at hand. smile

Another thing I have found is that it is better to disable BT before suspending because sometimes BT does not work after waking. But maybe that is just the BT chip in my PC that is malfunctioning. For accessing the BIOS or reEFInd I need a second (USB) keyboard anyway, so it's not a big issue...

Hello.

Yes, it seems that when I have connected it to another device and then I went back to my laptop it was "magically" fixed.

The keyboard is awesome. However, I prefer mechanical keyboards rather than this keyboard because in my opinion they are more comfortable to type, but it is a present of one of my friends so I will use it smile. I need to say that it looks elegant in a desktop (very "designer" smile)

Yes, indeed. I need to clean it many times!!! I have two microfiber cloths ready to rock smile

Regarding BT suspend, I'm going to try it. Maybe is a general issue.

Thank your very much for your help.
