alsa error: /dev/snd/seq failed: No such device Cannot open sequencer

SITUATION
I've been struggling with midi on Arch. I have a USB midi device connected to my laptop with the latest Arch updates.
It seems that I can't connect my usb device anymore, but I'm not sure where the problem lies.

PROBLEM
I can't use alsa to investigate, because when I try to use some alsa CLI-tools I get an error.

Saikia81% aplaymidi -l                               

ALSA lib seq_hw.c:466:(snd_seq_hw_open) open /dev/snd/seq failed: No such device
Cannot open sequencer - No such device

INFORMATION
ls -l /dev/snd/seq gives:

c-w-rw-r--+ 1 root audio 116,  1 Jun 28 01:11 seq

I'm in the 'audio' group.

I've tried modprobe, but don't know what to do with the error:

Saikia81% modprobe snd_seq 
sh: -c: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file
modprobe: ERROR: Error running install command for snd_seq
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'snd_seq': Operation not permitted

It used to work a few months ago, but I don't know why it doesn't work anymore, I've tried searching the errors, but don't seem to find any relevant solution

post a dmesg excerpt from plugin in your midi interface and maybe also

uname .a

Thank you saikia81 for solving my same problem! I simply redid your informative steps and that worked for me. However, I executed "modprobe snd_seq" as root.
