[solved but cause unknown] libreoffice 6.2 fails to start

Hi I have a strange problem where libreoffice fails to start. The splash screen / progress bar appears but then nothing. If I try to start via terminal I get no output.

I have tried removing .config/libreoffice and reboot but it does not help.

any tips on how to figure out what is wrong? Are there ways to alter libreoffice configs without getting libreoffice to start or a "safe mode"? However, I would expect all settings to be reset after removal of .config/libreoffice.

Check whether there's a running process after "then nothing" and also the window list - this could be merely an issue w/ the window being on a different virtual desktop or dead geometry and depend on your window manager/desktop environment.

Re: [solved but cause unknown] libreoffice 6.2 fails to start

After several attempts (removing .config/libreoffice+reboot, changing WM between i3 and kwin, downgrading to still and upgrading again to fresh, making sure that no odd settings were in /etc/profile.d, ...) it is resolved and I have no idea why.

Extremely unsatisfactory but happy that it works again.

Re: [solved but cause unknown] libreoffice 6.2 fails to start

I have the same issue.

Launching Libreoffice from terminal:

[daniel@hardwork ~]$ libreoffice
Warning: failed to read path from javaldx
/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/lo_kde5filepicker: error while loading shared libraries: libKF5KIOFileWidgets.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

libKF5KIOFileWidgets.so.5 is a file that belongs to kio package.
kio package pulls a lot of KDE dependencies, thus, converting a pure Qt DE (like LXQt, which is my favorite) or a GTK based DE in a "KDE slave".
I don't like this.

I don't know WHY Libreoffice 6.2.0-2 has be compiled requiring libKF5KIOFileWidgets.so.5 , kio is an OPTIONAL dependency: kio: for KF5 KDE desktop integration.

I will downgrade to 6.1.4-5 version and will ignore LO upgrades until packager solves this issue.

# pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/libreoffice-fresh-6.1.4-5-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

and after this

# nano /etc/pacman.conf
...
IgnorePkg=libreoffice-fresh
....

Best regards,
DanielH

No, you don't. The OP stated that there was no output when starting it from the terminal.

As for DanielH I'd assume something in your environment misleads LO to think it's running on KDE, see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/LibreOffice#Theme on how to enforce a backend.

No, it is intentional. LO now uses the KDE VCL on LXQT by default

Sounds like a bug - and stupid. Why not go w/ a Qt VCL and have the QPA handle the rest?

@arojas.
You're right; I'sorry, my fault.

@seth:
I agree with you on LO defaults for backends.
But being another topic, I will open another thread for it (copying @arojas, @seth  posts and my own toughts on it), to not disturbing here.
For me, this topic is closed, too.
