Libreoffice base error since upgrade

I'm getting an error when trying to open Libreoffice Base tables and forms.
This occurs with a Firebird embedded database only - HSQLDB embedded databases seem OK.

The connection to the data source "Reminder" could not be established.

Error code: 1

firebird_sdbc error:
*Unable to complete network request to host "localhost".
*Failed to establish a connection.
caused by 'isc_service_attach'

This has only occurred after updating to versions 6.1.4-5 and 6.2.0-2 (ie since libfbclient was installed as a dependency).
I get the error both with an existing .odb database and when creating a new one.
