Starting with kernel version 4.20.7 I cannot boot any longer due to the system not being able to mount my btrfs home partition. The system boots into emergency mode and trying to manually mount the home partition yields "unknown filesystem type 'btrfs'". I was told it was some sort of configuration issue, but I don't know what's misconfigured. Downgrading to Linux kernel 4.20.6 fixes the issue.

The most likely cause is that your /boot partition wasn't mounted last time you updated the kernel.
Post the outputs of...
uname -a
pacman -Q linux
from a broken boot.

Your response led me in the right direction. The installed version of the kernel and the running version of course did not match. I rebooted with the 4.20.6 kernel, mounted my boot partition to /boot and reinstalled the Linux kernel. I'm now using 4.20.8 successfully. Thank you very much!
