Syntax schemes for emacs

I can't make up my mind, I really can't. Vim one day, emacs the next. Love 'em both. One thing, though: no matter which kind of file I throw at vim, heck, even if it's my shopping list, it comes out in full colorized glory thanks to the wonders in /usr/share/vim/syntax
In emacs... it's mostly black-on-white. So my question is: is there something similar for emacs? I've searched around a little with no luck

Of course there is! You can find syntax hilighting in Emacs (under X) under "Options -> Syntax Highlighting (Global Font Lock mode)". If you are lazy - like me - you also want to click "Save Options" to make it permanent.

Thanks. What I wondered, though, is if there is such a collection of highlighting profiles for just about any file type (and then some), like what is in /usr/share/vim/syntax. Many file types are highlighted in emacs, but many are not (vim can do .emacs, but emacs can't colorize .vimrc...). Sorry to have been unclear.
