Hello,
I'm driving crazy right now, because I can't figure out my problem.
I'm trying to activate the hardware acceleration for my AMD R9 290X, but it doesn't work. I followed the guide on the Arch wiki and made my choice for VA-API. Here are some infos for you:
amdgpu is the selected driver on boot
setting the $LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME=radeonsi
vainfo

Maybe I've another important info: 3 months back, I had on the absolutely same system arch installed and va-api worked out of the box. Because of some other problems I erased the old arch system and made a clean install.
So my guess is, that Xorg is maybe the cause for this problem. I think I've another problem related to this underlying problem, but this is for another thread if I can't figure it out by myself.
I hope you can help me, because right now, I don't have a clue. I would really appreciate your assistance.

That's a long article; imo you're cutting it short when you just say "i followed the guide".
Please be more precise about what exactly you did.
How did you make your "choice for VA-API"?
also i seem to remember that both vaapi and vdpau are valid options, so have you tried the other one too?
have you tried just sticking with the defaults?
and what is this:

i don't see this mentioned in the wiki article for amdgpu.
why do you need that?

seems to suggest that that driver does not exist on your system?
PS:
i wouldn't worry about mpv's output just now.
it's a media player, not a diagnostic tool.
it probably just tries all possible GPU drivers regardless of what's actually installed.

First , setting LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME is only needed if libva doesn't detect it correctly (very rare nowadays) .
Unset that variable .
Post vainfo , glxinfo -B and lspci -k outputs.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
(A works at time B) && (time C > time B ) ≠ (A works at time C)

Should I search after something specific? Because those logs are extremely long
how about "amd" (case insensitive) for both files, and 'EE|WW' for Xorg.0.log.
but you should still upload the full info requested to a pastebin or so.
are you rebooting between troubleshooting steps?
i often find it easier than knowing the exact modules/units/services etc. to reload to apply a new setting...

Yeah these are heavily truncated, however we see that your GL is not resolved correctly. Please post the full log, do you have any custom xorg configuration? Remove them, what's your output for
pacman -Qs libgl
Educated guess... no wait I'm reading your OP again and this isn't a guess anymore: You likely have some variant of nvidia-340xx-utils or similar installed, because you simply hit enter when the question for the libgl provider came up, remove it, make sure you have libglvnd installed instead and reboot.

You should also change the thread title (edit first post) as the problem is not with va-api but more generic.
Substituting va-api with OpenGL will be a lot more accurate.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Yup, nvidia-340xx-utils was the problem. After I removed the package, it works fine. Don't know why I installed this because I'm always careful... Anyways thank you all very much for your expertise.
PS: My other problem got fixed, too. Steam didn't work properly, because after the login it couldn't establish an internet connection. Now it works fine.
