It seems the problem is :

feb 23 20:40:02 Giankun kernel: nvidia: version magic '4.20.12-arch1-1-ARCH SMP preempt mod_unload ' should be '4.20.11-arch2-1-ARCH SMP preempt mod_unload '

How to solve without downgrading everything?

Gian

Re: [SOLVED] Crash after linux + nvidia update - xorg won't start

I confirm that X server fails to start after the drivers upgraded to nvidia-390xx-390.116-1, nvidia-390xx-utils-390.116-1.
I have Nvidia GeForce GTX460.
Downgrade to nvidia-390xx-390.87,  nvidia-390xx-utils-390.87-1 temporarily solves this issue for me.

What package version did you downgrade to exactly? Also did you need to downgrade the kernel too? I downgraded to previous versions (utils is 390.87-1.1, driver is 390.87.35) and it's crashing still..

My current working Nvidia versions are
nvidia-390xx 390.87-36
nvidia-390xx-utils 390.87-1

The linux kernel is 4.20.11.arch2-1

Re: [SOLVED] Crash after linux + nvidia update - xorg won't start

Ook, I downgraded and it works now, my fault... I did not have nvidia-390xx-390.87-36 in pacman's cache and did not check.

Now, I checked the package and I can't find this issue as a bug, do we need to file one?

Re: [SOLVED] Crash after linux + nvidia update - xorg won't start

After downgrading to
nvidia-390xx 390.87-36
nvidia-390xx-utils 390.87-1
I had also to downgrade the kernel to 4.20.11.arch1-1.
Now it works fine. It did'n work without the kernel downgrade.

We have to be patient and wait for a while, as nvidia 390.116-2 together with kernel 4.20.12.arch1-1 are already on their way through testing repo.

I'm having the same issue but I'm still using 4.20.11-arch2-1-ARCH

I had to run mkinitcpio manualy after downgrading

I woke up to the same problem. Downgrading both nvidia-390xx and nvidia-390xx-utils did the trick. Did you file a bug report?

Issue is gone for me with new 'nvidia-390xx 390.116-2' and 'linux 4.20.12.arch1-1'.

I was thinking about filing a bug report yesterday, but I decided for waiting for the new package which was in the testing repo already. I'll upgrade tonight and a file a bug if there's still problems.

Confirmed.
