[SOLVED] OpenEXR and HDR image preview problems with KDE

Where I once used to get automatic thumbnails in Dolphin (on Kubuntu and KDE Linux Mint) for EXR and HDR files, they are no longer generated in Arch's bleeding edge versions of Dolphin 18.12.x.  Nor are they recognized by Okular and Gwenview (they did open on Kubuntu/Linux Mint KDE in the past).

Both ilmbase and openexr are installed on the system and the little programmes that come with them do work, so I know the libraries must be in the right spots.  Many thumbnailers are also installed and EXR Preview is turned on in Dolphin's preview settings.  I'm quite stumped, at this point.

Any help would be appreciated in finding out how to fix this once common functionality.

Is  kimageformats installed? They are relevant optional dependencies of the packages you mention, if you see something like this it is often useful to run pacman -Qi $package (on e.g. gwenview) to be informed of whether that is the case. And/or run the application in question in a terminal on a file in question as that might provide additional information.

In general if you want to ensure to get all potential functionality you might be interested in installing the entire kf5 group.

That indeed did the trick - thanks!  kimageformats was the missing link.  I appreciate the advice on tracking dependencies, as I took for granted that all deps would be taken care of, since 'EXR Images' are listed and checked in Dolphin Settings.  Never again shall I make such an assumption.
