Hey guys,
I just did a -syu on my sister's system. A lot of updates, it went well enough, but VLC is misbehaving now. Its acting like in this bug report:
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/4344
and forum post:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … hlight=vlc
(the no dialogs provider error).
Thing is, the bug report has been closed and everything should be working with the latest version... which I have installed. But its not. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dusty

I had the same error and got vlc working by recompiling and replacing --disable wxwindows with --enable wxwidgets in the ./configure options. I posted this as a comment to http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/4670

I installed VLC and got that as well, in fact none of the controls seemed to do anything (although they did change appearance when clicked).
BTW, what's with VLC suddenly using skins?

Hmm.. would it be possible for you to upload the package you created to somewhere? I've a problem being on not just dialup, but broken dialup (1KB/sec max...), I don't want to run abs and download the vlc sources if I can avoid it. If its an issue, don't worry about it.
Thanks!

Here you go. Let me know if you have any problems. It's probably still going to take a while to download with a 1KB/sec connection, but it certainly is better than getting the sources and compiling yourself.
Edit: link removed as fixed pkg has been released.

Thanks so much! I'm downloading it right now (and have been for some time. ;-)) I switched computers.... I'm getting 4KBPS on this one. Its like greased lightening. Must be a problem with the modem in the other...
Thanks again!

It Works.... Thanks so much. She'll be thrilled, it is working with dvd menus now. Easier to select which friends episode she wants to watch....

Glad it works, and that I could help. Is there anywhere I should mention this fix other than the bug I linked to earlier so that it can be incorporated into the standard package?

Hmmm that's strange, VLC didn't work for me neither, I just grab the PKGBUILD in ABS/extra (no change made), compile it again and it worked out-of-the-box. Same thing happened to me with weechat, it wasn't compiled with python/perl/ruby/lua scripts support but recompiling from ABS pkgbuild fix that. Or maybe I missed something ?

Having the same problems, don't know why the original bug was closed...
