I was following the guide in the wiki but I'm having problems with trying to pacstrap everything. Specifically, I get the "error: GPGME error: No data", and I get the same error for basically any pacman command. Looking online, apparently this is an issue with keys. So I ran pacman-key --init, pacman-key --populate archlinux and that works fine, but then pacman-key --refresh-keys gives
gpg: refreshing 113 keys from hkps://hkps.pool.sks-keyservers.net
gpg: keyserver refresh failed: No keyserver available
==> ERROR: A specified local key could not be updated from a keyserverI'm not entirely sure what to do at this point. There doesn't seem to be a debug or verbose option for pacman-key by the way. Also refreshing keys from another laptop connected to the same wifi gives no errors, so I'm assuming it isn't an issue where the network is blocking certain traffic from the keyservers. Any ideas?
SOLUTION:
I set up a wifi bridge from my phone, which was already connected. You could try using elinks to connect through the login page but that can be pretty difficult, so would not recommend.

Can you post the exact pacstrap command you used and all of its output please.
See if it is a problem with one particular keyserver in the pool
killall dirmngr
pacman-key --refresh-keyOffline
The pacstrap command was `pacstrap /mnt base`
The output is as follows (also pacman -Sy gives pretty much the same output, minus the /mnt stuff):
==> Creating install root at /mnt
==> Installing packages to /mnt
error: GPGME error: No data
error: GPGME error: No data
error: GPGME error: No data
:: Synchronizing package databases...
core <<progress bar>>
core.sig <<progress bar>>
error: GPGME error: No data
error: failed to update core (invalid or corrupted database (PGP signature))
<<same thing with extra and community>>
==> Failed to install packages to new root`killall dirmngr` and then `pacman-key --refresh-key` gives a similar output as before (shown below). Also --refresh-key and --refresh-keys seem to do the exact same thing
gpg: refreshing 113 keys from hkps://hkps.pool.sks-keyservers.net
gpg: keyserver refresh failed: General error
==> ERROR: A specified local key could not be updated from a keyserverLast edited by lochnesscookie (2019-03-01 23:22:39)

core.sig should not exist did the download of core.sig succeed?
Offline
The download bars are full (100%) for everything (core, core.sig, extra, extra.sig, etc.).

I would suspect a captive portal or issue with the mirror try
file /var/lib/pacman/sync/core.db #not sure if it should be /mnt/var/lib/pacman/sync/core.dbOffline
The output of:
file /mnt/var/lib/pacman/sync/core.dbis:
/mnt/var/lib/pacman/sync/core.db: HTML document, ASCII text(without the /mnt, the file doesn't exist)

Should be "gzip compressed data" have a look at the contents of the file to see what the webpage it returned is. It is looking very much like a captive portal.

Yep, it has a url to the actual thing in the file.
To clarify, it says this:
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv='refresh' content='1; url=http://www.google.com/&arubalp=63ffb463-7d76-46e3-8074-95c651d902'>
</head>
</html>Should I continue asking questions on this thread or make a new one?

I think it is fine to keep this thread open as the issue will be resolved when you have a functioning internet connection without a captive portal rewriting content.
Edit:
curl -v -o /dev/null http://www.google.com #see if the response contains HTTP/1.1 200 OKEdit:
changed https to http
Also you could try changing the nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf adding nameserver 8.8.8.8 as the first entry in case the portal is simply doing DNS redirection.

Yes, it has HTTP/1.1 200 Ok
EDIT: namerserver 8.8.8.8 already exists in the /etc/resolv.conf file, and moving it to the top doesn't change the output of the above commands

Drop the -o /dev/null and see if you can figure out what the page served wants you to do to gain access. The install media also contains the elinks console browser that might help.
Is an alternative internet connection possible?
Edit:
If the connection is not captive it could be the top mirror you used is the cause of the issue does changing the top entry in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist make any difference?

Okay, so I've been trying to navigate through the login page with elinks but haven't been able to get things working. Will edit this with an update later.
Edit: thanks for the help! I ended up getting through the captive portal on an Android phone (wouldn't work in elinks), setting up a wi-fi bridge, and using that to download everything I needed to. Marking as solved
