I'm using Arch with XFCE DE and i3wm, and I'm using Guake as a popup terminal.
The problem I'm having is that I've set ctrl+W as the shortcut to close a tab in guake, but it doesn't work, nothing happens.
I have a laptop at work which runs Ubuntu and I have guake on that too, and there the shortcut works nicely.
The shortcut to open a new tab is set to the standard ctrl+T, that one works in guake as well as everywhere else.
I checked with xev and the key presses seem to work properly, and they should considering I use ctrl+W to close tabs in web browsers
and file managers etc all the time.
Any idea as to what I should start checking to find out whats wrong?

What more information can I supply to assist in troubleshooting?

It seems to be a Guake bug : https://github.com/Guake/guake/issues/1472.
