Hello guys,
I would like to install Arch Linux on a Surface Book 2, but before, I have a question.
The recommended way to use Arch on a SB2 is to use a custom Kernel which is available on GitHub.
My Question:
Is it right that I do not receive updates of the official Kernel (currently 5.x...) as long as I use the custom one (4.x...)?
This would mean that if the developer stops working on that custom Kernel, I would stuck on an outdated Kernel forever - correct?
Thanks in advance for your replies ![]()

Correct.

You could always continue to update the kernel yourself. Are you sure there isn't a package in the AUR?

Yes, and no. If the stock kernel is installed, it will be updated when you update your system. You can have multiple kernels installed. There is no reason not to have the stock kernel, an LTS kernel, and your custom kernel all installed at once -- AS LONG AS they have different names.
The kernel you use is determined at boot time by the bootloader. You could have a bootloader entry for the stock kernel, and another for your custom kernel.
