Hello,
First post here, could't find the answer online.
When I first start i3 it starts with 2 xterm terminal emulators. Next times when I use $mod+enter it opens up urxvt and loads my configs from
~/.Xresourcescorrectly.
If I run manually
i3-sensible-terminalit also opens up urxvt as intended. couldn't figure out what happens.
echo $TERMINALalways returns empty, both in urxvt and xterm

if you set your $TERMINAL, try to logout and login again, if still it's not working, add this to ~/.profile instead of ~/.Xresources:
export TERMINAL="urxvt"I do that to set terminal to termite in i3. in my deepin, it uses x-terminal-emulator which is the default terminal emulator that setted by your Desktop Environment. I don't know exactly how to set terminal for x-terminal-emulator, but I can change it from settings of my Desktop Environment.
also check out your ~/.config/i3/config file, may it sets to start 'xterm' instead of 'i3-sensible-terminal'.
EDIT: by default, i3-sensible-terminal should open urxvt as of this script:

How do you start X11 and i3?
If the answer is "startx" (or "xinit"), review your xinitrc.
Online
I had following lines in my xinitrc
xterm -geometry 80x50+494+51
xterm -geometry 80x50+494-0Removing those caused no terminals to open at startup.
And just adding following to my .config/i3/config opened up 2 urxvt as I wanted.
exec i3-sensible-terminal
exec i3-sensible-terminalThanks guys
