H.264 video acceleration with amdgpu on R9 280

Hi!
I'm having following issue: when using amdgpu instead of radeon (by forcing it through radeon.si_support=0 amdgpu.si_support=1) for my Radeon R9 280, the hardware acceleration for H.264 and VC-1 decoding/encoding goes missing.
I'm on kernel 5.0, mesa 18.3, xf86-video-amdgpu 19.0

I've spent hours googling, reading wikis, bugreports and whatnot. I hope someone here can provide some insight.

Re: H.264 video acceleration with amdgpu on R9 280

No one has ported hardware decoding support for these GPUs to amdgpu, so what you're seeing is expected.

Well, that's a bummer...

Thanks for reply.
