Hey there,
a while back I had some issues after updating the system as I was not able to run Xorg properly anymore. That issue was solved but I think there is still something wrong in my configs. Yesterday I updated my system rebooted it and everything went fine. This morning I started the system and ran into issues again.
My hardware:
- NVIDIA GM107GL [Quadro K620] with a display port and a vga port
- Dell U2414H (screen one) connected via display port
- Dell U2414H (screen two) connected via daisey chaining (display port)
- Dell 19" (screen three) connected via DVI
Since I started using arch (half a year ago) I had issues when starting up when all three screens where connected. Thus I always connect the third screen via vga, after system is booted up and xorg is running. However, now I am also experiencing issues when starting up while the second screen (via daisey chaining) is connected. I know there is a problem from the start, because the resolution of the first screen is recognized well already when booting up, while the resolution of the second screen isn´t recognized correctly. With booting and running xorg only one screen there is no problem. When I am in xorg and connecting the second screen system freezes until I remove it again. This is independent of which Kernel I chose for bootup in grub2
My bootup:
- Starting the machine
- logging in with my account and pw
- running xorg by use of xinit
The latter I have configured by help of some forum members a while back. So probably I did a mistake here. Another suggestion was to directly boot into xorg without the detour through the terminal (logging in, starting startx script).

Is this correct? I am not sure at this point about the -geometry defintions. Where do they come from?
However, I am wondering if this is xinit related issue, as I am already experiencing problems even before running xinit and it causes the system to freeze when I am already running xorg and connecting the second screen via daisy chaining.

EDIT:
I solved the issue it seams to be hardware related. The second screen really behave strange and it did so as far as I can remember. So I changed the screen for one of my colleaugues, who use the same screens. With the new screen everything works as before. What a pain in the ass with those Dell screens -.-"
