[SOLVED] Xorg scrolling artifact in the middle of my screen

Hi guys,

I have a T480s and I've noticed this weird horizontal line in the middle of my screen whilst scrolling:

Noticeable on either Chromium or Firefox.

Perhaps it could be better described. Any ideas how to improve this, please let me know!

Someone on #intel-gfx has informed me that my problem is called tearing. I think the solution is https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … cs#Tearing

Are you using xf86-video-intel?  If so, the far better solution would just be to stop using that almost-complete-broken driver (especially on thinkpads).  Just remove that package, and Xorg will fall back on the much more reliable modesetting driver.

I was using the modesetting driver as my xorg log testifies. Martin Peres @ #intel-gfx implies the modesetting driver isn't tear free.. yet

20:43 <mupuf> until I am done implementing tearfree for the modesetting driver, you'll have to use the xf86-video-intel package, and set TearFree = True in
              xorg.conf
