I have also experienced a number of problems when I updated recently. One of them is that glibc 2.4 is missing and some of my applications now won't run. Having looked through a few posts I saw that someone was recommended to run
pacman.static -Sy glibc kernel-headers coreutils
I would like to try this but I am now unable to run a terminal window in xfce4 and can't find a way of switching to a console window, Alt-F5 does nothing.
I log on through GDM and even from that screen I haven't been able to find a way of accessing a console screen.
Can anyone offer some assistance as I would prefer to try running pacman.static rather than doing a complete re-install.
Thanks

Control-Alt-F{1-6} from inside X
Alt-F7 will bring you back to X, as in console mode Alt-F{1-7} is enough.

Thanks for that jaboua.
When I tried running
pacman.static -Sy glibc kernel-headers coreutils
I got the following error
error: unable to lock pacman database
if you're sure pacman is not already running, you
can remove /tmp/pacman.lck
When I try removing this file I get the following message
rm: /lib/tls/libc.so.6: version 'GLIBC_2.4' not found (required by rm)
Anybody have any ideas what I need to do to re-install glibc or would it be better to do a complete re-install of Arch?
