System freeze on suspend then resume

When I suspend my system via systemctl suspend and then resume the laptop, it freezes and I can't even change from my WM to another TTY via ctrl-alt-f2. I'm using i3 with xorg with startx and amdgpu I believe. The suspend feature was working before but the display would flicker randomly if I suspended and resumed. I think updating my system broke it. Also, the system freeze doesn't happen if I remain in console and don't use startx. But if I suspend and resume in console then use startx, the system freezes. I think I wasn't able to find anything in journalctl and xorg logs. Nothing gets written to journalctl after the suspend to resume, just:
kernel: PM: suspend entry (deep)
-- Reboot --
Where only the log from hard rebooting shows right after this part.
